The Yemen Block 44 exploration well Alkhoon #1 was spudded on 22 May, 2006. Total depth of the well, at 1506m, was reached on 15 June 2006. The well was drilled 200m into basement.
The well tested a structure close to the Ardah basin, which was an untested basin for DNO. Some minor oil shows were encountered in the Qishn sandstone reservoir, which could indicate the basin to work as a hydrocarbon system. DNO is close to completing the acquisition and processing of 258km of 2D seismic to upgrade the mapping of several prospects and leads in this area. Further exploration drilling in Block 44 is planned for the 4th quarter of this year.
